Chinese Yuan surpasses dollar, becomes most traded foreign currency on the Moscow Exchange

In a boost for China, its currency surpassed the US dollar for the first time this week. It makes Yuan the most traded foreign currency on Moscow Exchange. The western sanctions have pushed Russia closer to China.

China buys Russian commodities in Rubles, and Russia buys finished goods from China in yuan. If they can ensure that Russia gets the lowest prices on all China’s finished goods. This could actually to le the dollar.

Russia is using China’s Renminbi, Iran is using it, Saudi Arabia is using it, UAE is using it. China can trade their currency for oil and gas now. India on the other hand doesn’t want to use the Renminbi, but is forced to whenever we trade with Russia cause Russia don’t trust our ever plummeting Rupees.

It’s still traded less than the Canadian dollar, even if a bunch of failed states under sanctions like Russia and Iran grudgingly start to use it, it is not a rival for the US dollar. For China to be the world currency it would need to open its capital account (amongst other things) they don’t want to do that because no one would buy a poorly constructed unit on a 70 year lease if they could invest anywhere in the world.
